Kitfo

2012-08-01

Another distinctive Ethiopian dish is kitfo (frequently spelled ketfo), which consists of raw (or rare)  ground beef marinated in mitmita , a very spicy chili powder

Ingredients

  • 60g butter
  • 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. chilli pepper
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 lbs. lean round steak

Method:

  1. In a 9-inch skillet, melt butter. Add cayenne pepper, chilli pepper, salt and stir through thoroughly.
  2. Add lean round steak, freshly ground
  3. Mix thoroughly. Serve immediately. Do not cook.
  4. If your guests prefer the Kitfo cooked, saute it over low heat for about 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
