Power Smoothies (3 Recipes to Choose From)

2013-03-11

A well-crafted smoothie tastes so good you’ll forget it’s good for you! It’s one of my favourite ways to fill a glass with energy, nutrients and flavour. Use it to kick off your day – everyday – with the goodness of fruit. At heart, it’s just flavoured fruit puree so it’s easy to make. It’s also easy to jazz up with other healthy goodies like flax seed oil, yogurt or berries.

Ingredients:

1 or 2 bananas
a handful frozen berries
a handful other ripe seasonal fruit, fresh or frozen
orange, grapefruit, cranberry or apple juice
1 cup active culture yogurt
1 teaspoon honey
a splash flaxseed oil
a dribble vanilla

Method:

Orange Banana Berry
Toss a banana or two into a blender with a handful of frozen berries. Pour in orange juice until it’s almost level with the fruit. Add a large spoonful or two of yogurt, a splash of flax seed oil and a dribble of vanilla. Puree until smooth. Drink with a big smile on your face!

Berry Blaster
Toss a handful of frozen blueberries into a blender with a handful of frozen strawberries. Pour in enough cranberry juice to almost cover the fruit. Add a large heaping spoonful or two of yogurt, a small spoonful of honey, a splash of flax seed oil and a dribble of vanilla. Puree until smooth.

Raspberry Peach
Toss a handful of frozen raspberries into a blender with a handful of peach slices. Pour in enough orange juice to almost submerge the fruit. Add a large heaping spoonful or two of yogurt, a splash of flax seed oil and a dribble of vanilla. Puree until smooth. Mix with champagne for a special brunch treat!

I am 12 weeks pregnant. My doctor told me I have gained too much weight already (6lbs), but my eating habits have not changed. I have really bad heartburn all the time, so I am kind of limited on what I can eat. I need some ideas that are not only healthy, but that my 2 toddlers would eat too.

Flax seeds are even cheaper than sunflower seeds and linseed oil, which is obviously cheap compared to food, is made of flax seed oil.

I’ve heard about a flax-seed oil and cottage cheese mixture to help quell cancer. The patient was on coumadin prior to surgery, then was on Lovenox.

I’m thinking of adding Flax Seed Oil to my diet, but I’ve been getting mixed information. When I first started learning about it, it sounded great, but as I read more, I keep seeing that there haven’t been many studies to confirm or deny if it does or doesn’t have any benefits. From what you know about Flax Seed oil or Linseed oil, do you think there are benefits? If you’ve added it to your diet have you noticed a difference in how you feel or look, has it noticeably benefited YOU?

I am starting to use animal cuts now. I saw a bottle of this fish oil, flax seed oil and some other oil combination at walmart. I was just wondering if it would have an effect (good or bad) with my animal cuts supplements? Im sure it wont but I just need clarification on it.

I recently read that if you take flax seed oil you need to take vitamin B6 supplements because the oil contains a factor which interferes with this vitamin. I take 20 – 25 ml a day and I’m about 145 lb / 66 kg. How much vitamin B6 should I take?

I’ve been taking 30 mg of Adderal now for a little over a month and have starting taking Flax Seed Oil for it’s Omega-3s. I heard someone say that Flax Seed can help with ADD/ADHD. Since this is what Adderal does, is it safe to continue taking both?
